I don't remember what I was looking for when this appeared. But it seemed worthwhile enough for a closer look see.

This gives refs and some details for making hyphosphorous acid.  ie from red phosphorous and sodium chlorite -(Kaguka,[Kyoto] 16,71(1961)

from yellow phosphorus oxidized with copper nitrate
from reducing phosphoric acid and oxidizing products of diphosphorus tetraiodide or phosphorus triiodiode with iodine, as disclosed in Van Wazer (Phosphorus and its compounds,(1985), page345-418.

all of which still depend on the white phosphorus availibility at hand.
