SWIM is awfull tired of dealing with HI, and phosphorus in any degree.

SWIM was recently looking at CTH with internal sources like
Pd/C and ammonium formate.  He esp. likes the CTH with Pd/C and ammonium formate in the microwave (courtesy of Rhodiums microwave section).

SWIM wants to know if this may be viable for benzylic alcohols, or the associated esters.  SWIM thinks this could have very beneficial applications to benzylic alcohols like pseudoephedrine.

So, has anybody tried this?  What is the word from bee's more fluent in organic chemistry than SWIM?  Think it will work?  SWIM dreams of reduction of perchloric, or just plain halogen esters of pseudo.  So how goes it?

But you could do worse than to avert your eyes over to Post 367468 (Regis: "The most interesting CTH reaction ever documented?", Novel Discourse), followed by ../rhodium /amph.cth.ppa.html . Searching here for phenylpropanolamine CTH should give you some more information, which is just as applicable to (pseudo)ephedrine CTH.
