acetic acid to precipitate iodine from tincture?
Swim wants to precipitate a pint of %7 by simply adding a chilled pint of iodine to a chilled gallon of %5 acetic acid and slowly add chilled bleach until solution is clear and the xtals are all crashed out. Fast&cheap Will acetic acid work? http://www.altavista.com/ |

You want a STRONG acid | |||||||
Acetic acid is significantly weaker than Hydriodic acid, so I'd really suggest that you find some H2SO4 or HCl instead. |

a thought that had crossed swibb's mind once b4
not that swibb has come up with a overly good reason to do so, h3po3 would work would it not? swibb tried it once 'cause his hcl was unaccesible at the time and got what appeared to be i2 crystals precip'ting out, but was unsure if they were in fact usable. swibb's hcl suddenly reappaeared so he didn't have a need to try the crystals that came out, but if all the tincture needs is a strong acid then is it logical to assume the i2 DID come out after all? |
