      Question about Liquid Chromatography  Bookmark

I've found LC columns that range 12 to 20 inches long by 1 inch to 3 inches in diameter.  There is an optional reservoir available.  I read FAQ's and have seen videos of the procedure using 20 ml to 50 ml samples.  A number of posts in this archive suggest using chromatography in addition to fractional distillation and A/B separation to verify purity.  Have not seen references suggesting length or volume for the column.

SWIM intends to separate THC compounds from a 500 ml honey sample.  SWIM knows about chromatography, but does not have experience with large volume separation.  Compounds to be extracted have boiling points that are close to each other.

Questions:
What would be the appropriate size chromatography tube for separating 500 ml to 2000 ml of honey?

Would this size tube be appropriate for any honey separation assuming similar volume?

When you say that you want to LC 500 mL's of honey i hope you mean as a solution with an appropriate eluant. If you indeed mean that, then the chart on the page suggests 30-40 mm diam. columns.

If you do intend to use a column for separating 500 mL's of some fb. amine, you'd better have a warehouse handy, because you are going to need a REALLY big column ;)
