      Excellent Videos for Newbees
(Rated as: good read)

http://ocw.mit.edu/OcwWeb/Chemistry/5-301January--IAP-2004/StudyMaterials/index.htm

The "Digital Lab Techniques Manual" is a series of ten videos designed to help you prepare for your chemistry laboratory class. Each video provides a detailed demonstration of a common laboratory technique, as well as helpful tips and information.

Topics that will probably be of most interest to Bees include: Work-Up, Filtration, Sublimation, and Recrystallization.

Although a link to this website was posted about a year ago I feel that it deserves a repost as these videos are extremely thorough as well as being somewhat humorous at times and have the ability to help many Bees. Reading a well written book on this subject like "Zubrick's Survival Guide" is great, but there is nothing like seeing something demonstrated by knowledgeable individuals. Actually, when this website was referenced before these videos where not available (and I wonder how many Bees have seen them since they where), but did indeed have a lot of other useful information. I think a link to these videos should be placed in one of the sticky threads in this forum.

Crank is part of this complete breakfast.

"Bend over my bench, so I can spank you, you naughty, naughty boy!"
She has no clothes on under the white coat

A bird with brains sporting rubber gloves. This was so sexually alluring, that someone ripped the videos and exported on the i2p network:

      I2P

How the hell do you get I2P to even install? All the files listed were from linux/unix platforms. I am running a non NT based version of windows.
Or is there a way to download streaming video from sites? (save target as does not work)
The videos are very good, I just wish I could download them.

      Downloading Streaming Video

You can do it with mplayer on linux thus:

1. Save the realplayer filename.rm file to disk (it is actually a short ascii file). Open with a text editor and copy the rtsp://blahblah stream URL.

2. Plug the rtsp URL into mplayer. E.g. to save as Crystallization.rm:

mplayer -dumpfile Crystallization.rm -dumpstream rtsp://a1688.v7870f.c7870.g.vr.akamaistream.net/ondemand/7/1688/7870/v0001/mitstorage.download.akamai.com/7870/5/5.301/iap04/labvideos/mit-5.311-chem-09-recrystallization-220k.rm

(The download takes as long as playing the stream).

There is a beta release of Mplayer for windows - haven't tried it though. There must be other windows tools to rip realplayer streams.Maybe this:

i2p is java and will run on windows, provided that you have java installed. Download install.jar from
http://www.i2p.net/download
and run that.

I2P takes some tweaking and configuration.

I2P takes some tweaking and configuration. If anyone doesn't want to install *nix on another partition they can just boot from a Knoppix STD CD. I was having problems ripping the streams so I have obtained the original AVI files and converted them to DivX format. They will be available on my website soon along with other info that includes: a procedure to obtain close to Lab Grade RP from strikers, a highly refined Pseudo/E extraction form Ma-Huang, a lot of chemistry software, many videos of reactions, demonstrations, and other videos that will be of interest to Bees etc. My goal is to have a website that provides as much information as Rhodium's, but more geared toward multimedia.

The videos with the I2P links are the same as the ones on the web. I wouldn't even bother with that funky stuff. I2P seems like a really neat idea tho.

      The i2p copies

These are the complete realvideo files, not streams like the MIT site has. You can copy the whole file to your disk from the i2p links.

      i2p ain't working?

hmmm, I just tried and I retrieved them OK. Have you tried the link again (sometimes the request times out and needs to be repeated to get a connection to the remote server)?

Can you connect to http://sasquotch.i2p and other i2p sites, for example, duck.i2p?

Maybe due to satellite. It would be nice to know if someone can retrieve them though.
