      Alkaloid Hydrolysis

I know a person who did an extraction on HBWR seeds.
They had a nice yellow solution in MeOH, upon evaporation and collection there was brown crystals and sticky stuff.

They went on to follow the Jacobs Hydrolysis.  They added MeOH with KOH dissolved in it.  An dark orange/ amber solution formed, however, not all the Brown Stuff dissolved.

They were next going to evaporate off the MeOH and then add a solution of 8% Aq. KOH, etc.

I asked what they planned to do if not all the brown stuff dissolved.  They said they would filter if off before the addition of dilute H2SO4 in the process.

I was wondering if they screwed something up, or if this is something typical to this route - it just looks odd and I haven't read anything about this - I figure maybe I can help them out?

      Looks Good

Everything ended up dissolving with the 8% KOH Solution and then followed as expected.
I found an article describing that not all the residue typically dissolves in the MeOH/KOH solution, so I guess this wasn't as odd as I figured.
