brought on by the war on terrorism, SWIM was able to pass through the border at detroit/windsor (both ways) without a hassle. I was with my family on vacation (which explained the trunk full of luggage). Given, we are all middle-class white suburban average non-threatening looking people driving a new, clean car. Crossing the border during the well-traveled holiday season probably didn't hurt either. The border guards just asked the usual twenty questions and we answered them honestly. We weren't asked to get out of the vehicle or anything. I'm sure the policy is a little different with the War on Terrorism, but I don't see how they can hassle you much if you look and act anything like the way I described. This poses the question of where on the border is the least suspecting place to cross? When you meet a swordsman, draw your sword: Do not recite poetry to one who is not a poet. |
