file this one under PROPER CARE AND FEEDING OF REAGENT.
a 4L still sealed jug of glacial acetic acid that sat in the garage over the (very mild) winter has solidified into a large chunk. despite the weather being warmer, and the jug now sitting in a heated (15°C-20°C) area, the majority of it is still solidified.
i'm assuming this happend because the melting point of GAA is 16.6°C and while in the garage, it was subjected to 0°C-5°C all winter.
is it best to thaw it as one would a block of ice? eg, put it in a warm pail of water.

Sure, or even just a warmer room. It will eventually all melt and be just as good as new.

but I loosened the top slightly before warming up the bottle. Did not want pressure building up too much inside

thanks for the input kids. it's already thawed out, but appears the slightest bit discolured. no big deal, it's cheap and plentiful.
