Some OTC solvent data for Oz bees | Bookmark | ||||||
Hello OZ bees, SWIM has been doing some research on the contents of common solvents/products available in Oz by looking at product MSDS's and chasing up the CAS numbers. He thought you might find the following useful. All products are by "sniggers" and are readily available OTC in hardare shops: 1. White Spirit: >60% Aliphatic Naptha, 10-30% light aromatic solvent naptha 2. Lacquer Thinner G.P: Toluene 60%, MEK 30%, Butanol 10% 3. Enamel Thinner: >98% aromatic naptha 4. Acrylic thinner: Toluene 30-60%, Xylene <10%, Acetone 30-60%, Cyclohexanone 1-9% SWIM thought these exact proportions may be of use to fellow bees. |

While this is informative data, hardware stores in OZ will also supply the following OTC. Which would eliminate the need for fractional distillation. 1. Toluene 2. Acetone 3. VM&P Naptha 4. Xylene While these solvents contain significant amounts of water, this can obviously be solved by MgSO4..(baked not fried) Saying that, MEK can be bought in a hardware store in the form of pvc plumbers cement(760ml/L). Rural hardware stores are swims favourite :) I'm a diamond that is tired, of all the faces i've aquired. |

in the hardware shops its easy to find oxalic, xylene, toluene, HCl everything, and its not mixed in, swim found it bottled with the name in big letters... toluene is a glue solvent so it has a name but underneath its says >60% toluene, guessing the rest is MEOH or water? seeing as its not written anywhere what the other <40% it is presumed water? |

I've seen 'glue removers' with that sort of proportion of tol in them, and they had fuck knows what else - esters, ketones, ammonia, IPA, methanol... look harder for tol, or just ask the anzacs for a clue |

WOW! MEK, what a thrill, it's about as hard to get as methylated spirits. Now what do you plan on doing with it? I'm not fat, I'm just too short for my weight. http://www.whatreallyhappened.com |
