Hi all-
SWIM was wondering what pretty color SWIM would get by mixing 9 parts Formalin 40 with 1 part conc H2SO4 and then using a mL to test a mg or less of salvinorin A.
SWIM was also wondering if this would even be a valid test...

That would not do anything. Marquis works by reacting the formaldehyde with the amine and sucking some water from it with the sulfuric acid... Salvinorin A has no amine's what so ever, so it would probably not do anything.

It will do something as salvinorin is complex and possibly bit defenseless againts conc sulfuric acid.But don't expect any color besides black tar.

That would be a cool new test to sell: "if it turns black and tarry it's salvinorin A". Guess we'll be seeing kids smoking old tire's and the like hehe ;)

what about THC?
Lacks nitrogen and is a terpenoid, like salvinorin A, and definitely gives a blue to purple colormetric reaction to the Marquis reagent (per SWIM's friendly neighborhood LEO).
Is there another test available to do research on?
SWIM thinks SWIM will mix up some Marquis and purify some salvinorin A xtals and find out for SWIMself, then report back.
Maybe that would make up for the crosspost...
