Anethole has a melting point of 21-22°C

Anethole has a melting point of 21-22°C when pure, so you should not need to use the freezer, only the fridge. I believe the reccommended recrystallization solvent is petroleum ether (or pentane/hexane), but do not use a lot of it.

Petroleum ether works very well. Just mix anise oil with it 1 : 1, freeze, decant all the liquid from the crystalls and repeat. 80 ml of anise oil give around 50 ml of anetole.
- method proposed in the soviet patent SU1751180.
