nitroethane | |||||||
In Rhodiums method #2 for making nitroethane with diethyl sulfate and sodium nitrite. WHy does it have to be shaken 20 hours and periodically have the pressure relieved. Does it need to be reacted in an inert atmosphere or can it just be magnetically stirred..worse case flush with some nitrogen??? |

You can come up with a better answer than that | |||||||
Why do you come up with a solid chunk. NItroethane is a liquid. What is the preferred method then. I was excited about reading the article about making ethyl bromide from alcohol and KBr. But sodiumm nitrite is so cheap and diethyl sulfate is so easy to make and/or buy. |

I don't now wath is happening. But my personal eksperience with the reation is quite bath (also done with cathecole as scavenger). I have run the reaction 3-5 times in the 100g range. and everye time ended up with an gel lige mass. |
