      RP (Redheads) + Testing

RP From 'RedHead' brand matches *Im located in Oz* Soaked in Metho, colected, washed. MUST I wash it once collected with sulphuric and hydrochloric acid then dh20, acetone, dh20? Can Metho be used to substitute the acetone? If so, why is it the RP still remains dark brown? Is the ONLY way to test for a reaction being mixing it with i2 and adding a drop of dh20? & Final question, what is the approx weight of rp gained from a carton of 10 *Small boxes*? If I have the wrong ideas, where would one look to get high % acetone & h2so4?

Paradise brand matches are no longer available in my area, redheads are the only ones purchasable at the moment. Are there any success stories with this brand?

Emails welcome..

Forgive the newbie!

      Match box strikers

Post 474484 (WizardX: "Phosphorus", Stimulants)
The colour ranges from the orange to the dark violet depending on molecular weight, particle size and impurities.

This is the material, mixed with powdered glass, stuck on the side of boxes of safety matches on which the matches must be struck to light them.

      Redheads r better in bed

Crikey! Ozbee..., i'll help u out as i'm feeling patriotic tonight

Well Steve Irwin went on a Redhead dream and his too ended up a dark brown colour and smooth as baby powder; and reacted a treat.

Look up procedures from Sqiddippy (check spelling) re mbRP.  The Croc Hunter's procedure went like this

1) Strips cut from packs
2) Soaked in alcohol (Steve used Methanol) THEN as it doesn't crumble off; he put on some gloves and rubbed and swirled and carressed the strips together to get off the RP and glue.
3) decant off alcohol and remove strips and crude RP powder dry a little
4) procede with HCL acid boils (sulphuric can bee used but dilute it - UTFSE for how much)
5) go acetone boils, then h20 boil

The key is to continue these cleaning boils until the RP powder is smooth; which indicates no residual glue is stuck on.  The different solvents are neccessary (IMHO) as they each remove different contaminants (glue, paper etc).

Go to a hardware store for big cans of acetone and bottles of sulphuric.  Look in Chems and Equip FSE.

Steve irwin is BY NO MEANS a RP expert, and others will hopefully tweak his comments and procedure.

Lastly, Redheads sell in boxes of 10 (little packets) for about $1 AUD.  They have about 150 boxes on sale at any one time at any large supermarket (u know the ones).  The local convenience store where my wife Terry buys her tampons had a big 1m square box of redhead matches so someone obviously thinks they're better in bed!

RH tripple packs IIRC ~250mg x 3 box (less striker to cut), around $1.30. Acetone + Milo tin (stainless) shake 50 pads a time (then remove / replace, continue, no scraping needed) like your having a good tug. Perform HCl, DH2O, Metho washes each repetatively until clear then move onto the next, seems to work.

i had a dream a long time ago with redheads...

i had a dream a long time ago with redheads and everything was A O K.....but at the time more than 5 years ago the method used to remove the rp was with sand paper (if you like your fingers i advise not to try this) it took ages and the return was shithouse....

12 hour acetone soak - 100 small boxes

The ease with which 1g of fine powder can extracted after soaking strikers in acetone for 12 hours is remarkable.
After your soak, put some 'serious' gloves on.  Then grab as many strikers as you can in two hands and rub together.  You will very quickly notice red being stripped clean with the acetone becoming very dark red (much like small bodies of water, where Japanese spear hundreds of dolphins turning the sea red).  Sorry, I digress.
When all your strikers are mainly white (not completely), discard them.
You now have your acetone, thick, dark red.  Under the surface sitting safely at the bottom is your RP.
Let it sit for 10 minutes after which time you will slowly tilt your container and decant the red acetone.  As you get close to decanting all the red acetone out, you will notice your deposit of RP moving to the lip of the container.  Stop just before the RP hits the lip. Tilt your container back down and let it all fall back with the small quantity of acetone you have left.
At this point (because I use a large based container), the muddy (textured) RP is evenly distributed across the whole base and left to dry.
When dry, I use an inflexible razor-sharp blade to scrape the dry powder off.  As it scrapes, large pieces roll off and curl in the process.
These are easily crushed to a powder.  At the end, you have some very fine powder and some larger heavier deposits.  Remove the fine stuff (but only when it's really fine).  With the heavy larger particles, you can crush further to obtain a little more fine stuff.
With an A4 piece of paper, I use a (gold) panning type technique to separate the larger heavier particles from the really, really fine dark red RP.

      Yield AOK

"...12 hour acetone soak - 100 small boxes. The ease with which 1g of fine powder can extracted after soaking strikers in acetone for 12 hours is remarkable..."

This jogged Swix's memory; as he got 30 Packets (10 small boxes per Packet = 300 small boxes) and got 3g clean.

Also, the finer the particles, the greater the surface area of nucleation sites; and the better the activity in reactions.  Clean mbRP shouldn't clump together too much anyway; and if so, further contaminants (glue deposits) need to be removed.

Just go into different Supermarkets and get trusted mates to (separately) buy up as well and go to different and the dumbest looking check-out chicks.

mbRP is already watched, controlled, fucked up the ass...so you can't make the sitation any worse.  Just bee armed with a damn good excuse in case Officer Leeroy or the like is breathing down your neck in the checkout line as he buys his cheap stale donuts from the specials bin.

Possible Excuses -

"I'm from the Conservatorium of Art and i'm doing a Mod-contempary piece on bush fires in Oz"
"I'm from Lah-Lah Shop and we're doing a 'redhot' summer sale window display"
"My kid-brother is doing an art project...they wouldn't sell them to him!!"

And obviously choose your excuse to match your appearance and area of most expertise.  However, most times; you should just walk in, smile to the bird, and walk out.

Also look into the use of larger 'camping' matches etc as some believe have said they contain more RP per strip and it is of a higher quality.  This is a pretty easy aquisition for the nano- i2/rp bee
