orange gaak
|
|
|
the last few dreams ive had involving hypo have been of questionable success. does the gaak only come through after cooking for along time because 2-3 hours seem to be ok but anymore than 5 presents a problem with crystalization......and with 2-3 hours the potency isnt to crash hot....
ive read quite a bit about the reaction and ive read the the HI must be at least 57% to convert (is that right) to meth...if so does this mean the reaction does not take place until the solution reaches 57% ....and if so is 57% a saturated solution just b4 the HI evolves in the reaction
any help would be great....

It needs to be >50% throughout the reaction or else the reaction grinds to a halt, 57% is the azeotrope gotten by distilling HI(aq) at 127°C.

Regarding Orange Gaaks: The cook times or temps do not affect the removal or the activation of any inactive ingredients that may be present. If orange II gaak is encountered, it most likely will be detected post-rxn during the work-up. Yield will be severely decreased and the crystal will be gooey upon evap. That is only after much headbanging to get the amine to move into the NP. Some may choose to wait a day or so before pulling the NP off the basified solution. This gives the encapsulating effects time to subside some. But most will opt for over-basing in order to get the amine to move into the NP. This act of instant graification is what assists this inhibitor in contaminating the end product, in swiw's honest opinion.

If you use the 57% concentration hypo, reflux the solution for ten or twelve hours. Give it time. Be patient. You will be rewarded with the final results. If you want to cook shorter, you need a more concentrated hypo solution. It is safer to do a longer, lower temp reflux than it is to concetrate the hypo solution.

30-50% Hypo for 12 hours at 110C-120C works best for me.

86%w/w, reflux for 2 hours, lovely end product. But that's only if you can get your hands on the good stuff. Swibn also uses lab grade iodine.
