      Another Sodium Advantage..

smilePure Birchophiles sneer at the
inroads made by the lowly battery snippers. And to think
they have the audacity to call it "Birch", when Birch classicly refers to the Na metal.
(Yes, I know the general use of an alkali metal
is now acceptably  called "Birch", but
I'm trying to provide a little snotty humor
in this forum, as it has been sorely lacking as of late,
so fuck off..)

so ANYway, the poor dumb presumptious lithium snipper and
battery wreckers have to do all their
 snip, unroll, cover in naphtha
tear in litle pieces and add and stir crap,
when once more the sodium route
makes it ever so much easier..

See, what you do is take your basic LUMP of shiny Na
and put it into onea dese:

Holding it over your smelly, see,
you just slowly twist,
and miniscule chunksa sodium go drifting down,
and dissolve real close to instantly
(kinda instantly, sorta..)
and?? well, compared to tearing off
lil pieces of lithium ???
and drying and flinging in
and waiting till it
dissolves and alll??

LITHIUM SUX!

sorry, what can I tell you?

it hurts to be right, but somebody has to do it..cool

      electro birch expeditions

Hey dwarf,

That's quite bold of you to again risk the attempt of mixing some humor with your science considering this mornings egg fiasco. Hopefully the yoke won't be on you this time.

But seriously I'm curious if you or that toothless Marvin cartoon-like character have ever voyaged into the electolyte laden waters of the mysterious electrobirch territories?

And to highlight my formidable science IQ I ask... is sodium in it's pure form good for jewelry making or for making standard "metal shop" items?

      sodium

sodium, in its pure form, is a fairly restricted chemical, no?
its also a bit dangerous; not something you'd want to grate on a cheese grator, though it does have a cheese like texture.
any water, and it will react pretty energeticly as the liberated H2 explodes and rains down lye.

isn't this why its been replaced with lithium in the clandestine arena?

      Li vs. Na

I wouldn't throw a gram of lithium into a beaker of water indoors either, even if it does react with water a bit slower than sodium.

The reason Lithium is popular among meth cooks is that it is available OTC from Lithium batteries (../rhodium /lithium.batteries.html)

      Pure Sodium

Probably not to be seen anymore and a possibly a baited trap if you do see it but maybe two or three years back I'd occasionally see some giant chunks of sodium up for sale at a well known auction site. The tail end of the lighter scheduled RP era. Red and White phos would also appear sporadically. The white stored in water containers. I would say "those were the days" but I really don't feel that way.

I heard somewhere that pure sodium can be used as an efficient mass fish exterminator. Not sure why anyone would want to do that but is this true or urban science legend?

      Lithium as an anti-psychotic?

Marvin, in a fit of trying to follow instructions
about wiping off a lithium strip,
took the kitchen towel
and was wiping when it (the towel)
and the metal burst into
a pretty violet flame.
He wanted to get rid of it,
as even though it was quite pretty,
it was also quite violent
and was hissing as if it wanted to bite the poor slob.

His first atempt to throw it away did not work,
as the cloth was too well draped over his flinging arm,
so he had to try a second time to get it away from him
and off the back porch.

His buddy was standing on the back porch steps
when the flaming lithium went flying by his head
at a range of about maybe 6 inches.
Showing some discontent at the proceedings
he said something like
"FUCK! WTF are you FUCKING trying to DO?"
(or something like that I forget..)
(No sense of humor, like some moderators
around this joint..)

INterestingly enough, a chunka lithium
fell near the thrower's feet, and melted,
i say MELTED
the edge of a fired terra-cotta tile..
Gawd Damn that musta been some hot fire.
Lucky it waren't
a wooden back porch, huh?

==============================

As regards the use of the cheese grater,
being plastic and stanless steel,
no problems have been noted,
tho Marvin has now several chunks
of Na that have a semi-circled
1/4 moon look to them..

It should be noted that the correct way
of cleaning the grater subsequent to it's
employment, is to drop it into a pail of water.smile

do not hold it while cleaning, at least until this
is done.  Trust me on this.  crazy

=============

This way of getting to blue
maybe even better than the
preparation of the metal in a separate
container, and adding the solvated fluid
dropwise to the precursor and ammonia separately.

Why?  Because you don't over use any metal.
when you get to blue, you quit grating metal...<DUH>

otherwise, you generally prepare too much solvated
electron soup, because it is such a bitch
if you don't have enuff..frown

I'm not going to recommend to anyone
where to go to get what, but there are
other sources of Na out there than
the one reffed above, though with a willing partner in another city, even that is
not undoable for small-time puissant producers.

by the way, potassium, as a raw impure substance, is
allegedly cheaply available.  ..

Calcium has not been tried....(by anyone I know..)

Next time simply leave the Li in its original white wrapper and pull the strips as needed when needed. Therefore,no need to wipe off the strips...........
