Hypo and HI concentration question
assuming that one had a 65% solution of hypophosphorus acid, wouldn't that mean that the maximum concentration of HI would be 35%? Since most of the write-ups speak of 57% HI aq, wouldn't one want to reduce the hypophosphorus concentration in order to raise the maximum HI concentration of the solution? Could it be that failed hypo rxns are due to too high concentration of hypo!?

Seems that way to me

I find that lower concentrations seem to work best for me. I would say that mine is about 30-50%.
I just use the square crystals that form in the condenser as a guide. I allow them to build up a little and then wash them down with a little dh20 and repeat until they no longer return. However, i beleive the majority of the reduction is completed within the first few minutes anyway. Nevertheless i like to run them for at least 6 hours.
It wasn't Me!
