After basifying swim tried to extract with Xylene.

How is the Xylene suppose to look?
Swims Xylene is clear with alot of spongy crap all up in itshocked.

Also Does the Xylene need to bee washed with H2O etc..?

thx   smile

      xylene

The xylene should look like there is strands of oil suspended in it, put it up to a light.

Isolation is a must for the experimentation of a model subject.

      spongy crap

spongy crap sounds as if there is a serious gaak prob.
Prior to acidifying after separation from the base solution, do a few warm and cold h2o washes on the NP.
If this doesn't remove the spongy crap from the NP, don't worry too much as it shouldn't migrate into the h2o layer if titrating.
I don't know if Ibee'd gas the NP with it being present.
If gassing, maybe it will filter out.

After basifying solution went from white to dark maroon.
Is it suppose to be that color?

Filtering took care of spongy crap.
Thx

      Rootbeer float....

No...SWII's been gaaked!
More than likely, it's OII gaak.
Kerplunk or wait it out for 24hrs.
If any is yet to be worked-up(based)...there is a chance that the goodz can be recovered if the pH stays just below 12.5 in the presence of NP on top.
Use the color change as a guide.
Just before the color change while base additions are being done splashwise.
Pull the NP before going to pH 13 and the solution turns rootbeer color.
Waiting it out aint so bad either if ya got the patience to come back to it!

      tits

You should first learn how to titrate with aqueous hcl without over-acidifying the water pulls before you move onto gassing. (gassing is the more "advanced" way to make the hcl salt)

Just beecause yer feedstock stash is white and looks clean is no gaurantee that gaaks are not present.
Unfortunately...most never know it until the post-rxn final work-up such as what was already encountered in the last batch!

Truer words were never spoken.

The appearance of the feedstock and clean and white means nothing. The nastiest of the gakks can hide in the clean white feedstock and you won't see them until the post reaction workup when its too late. Visual clues to the cleanliness of the feedstock can be the most deceptive.
