LWR - Large bubbles after just an hour...

Swim is yet again tring to do a LWR.

This time with

7.4g Ephedrine.HCl
5.5g LG RP
12g  I2
8ml  H20

(He used precusors for 10 g E.HCl just to make sure it's reduced this time...)

1. H20 and E.HCl was added
2. LG RP added
3. i2 added
4. Swirrled flask
5. Attached condenser with balloon and icewater
6. Heat gradually applied
7. Further heating until tiny bubbles are bubbling
8. Checked the setup 45 min after. Bubbeling almost ceased
Added 1 ml H2O took heat until oilbath read 127C
Bubbles are showing, but they are not tiny. Aprox 1/2cm in size.

Refluxing can bee seen, about a drop or two pr min.

Swim thought larger bubbles was a sign og a done rxn?
Swim thought just to wait it out, it this correct?
Should he add more of any reactant, or just wait?

Thanks!

Let it go for the whole 48 hours, doesnt matter what signs you see, let it cook man!. Dont take my advice but.

      Ware do we begin...

Do we begin by ripping your arms off so you CAN'T mess with a perfectly good rxn and f*ck it UP?
No we can't do that cause I'd have to come over and do the work-UP and that's too much like workwink
Didn't SWIJ learn anything from the last time we went through thisshockedsmile
Leave it alone and follow 12chem's advice!

      Well...

I didnt mess with the reaction last time afair. Only post reaction questions i belive...

Last time i was told that larger bubbles indicated that the rxn was the end of the reaction...

Geez:
----------------------------------------------------------
"Are you finished?:  Your reaction flask is full of larger bubbles and those small ones you have watched for so long are missing. When you remove the flask from the heat, and the flask cools enough the contents cease boiling, you should see no small bubbling activity."
----------------------------------------------------------

So i was scared i'd fucked it up already... shocked

But, luckily for me, you're here to guide the misguided...smile

      Reminds me...

My statement about chopping off yer arms reminded me of chester_copperpot and his desires to hack off his arms and legs in order to get a bevy of babes to feel sorry for him and cater to his every whimlaugh

The Line of Questioning is what caused some alarm....
For one....if the reactants were suitable for a 10g run but used in a 7g run, I'm lost as to what would make SWIJ think more reactants were needed.
The most common mistakes being made with the LWR is the bees that have an uncontrolable need to look for signs in a rxn where if none were seen, everything would still be on course and complete without attendance.
Surely you've read this over and over!
I know I've said it over and overwink
Just be patient and everything will be fine.
Go the distance and the only thing to worry about then is a possible gaak attack post-rxn...

      Thanks again ware...

Im fotunate to have the patiance of The Kidz by my side.
I've done now 3 LWR with little results, thats why im hoping to the max that this will pay off.

I have however located the weak spot in my "procedure".
At least i think.

Lack of patiance during the AB pulls, PH dosent change instantly so pulls that came out acidic left the NP basic.

This combined with excessive volumes of extraction fluid has
left this bee with bad results.

But again thanks to The Kidz, i now have confidence left to pull this one off.

      c'mon

The larger bubbles I described are commonly seen at the end of a reaction, but do not necessarily mean the reaction is done. I'd worry if I saw nothing but small bubbles at forty eight hours. I would be far less concerned about larger bubble size after a couple of hours.

The time elapsed at temperature tells you whether the reaction is done.  Let it run. Resist the urge the meth monster gives you to interfere with a simple thing. Let it bubble along for its allotted time. Don't worry about "signs." The sign you need to pay attention to is the one given you by the clock that says "long enough."

Other indications are secondary, and should be considered only if and when things are obviously going wrong.

      Coaching a Titration Evaporation

I know what I'm describibg here is a post rxn process but it applies nevertheless to the impatience involved but am I the only one who has ever stupidly stared intently into a titration evaporation in progress and coached it on to dry faster?cool

I may bee dumb and ugly but I make up the difference with my lack of personality

      HeyHey!!!

Chemo....your touching a nervelaugh

am I the only one who has ever stupidly stared intently into a titration evaporation in progress and coached it on to dry faster?

This use to be one of the highlights of the day for The Kidz after watching the grass grow for 48hrswink
During their a/b learning daze, They also use to get the biggest kick out of trying to determine if any meth was present in the hcl polar layer under the NP by the amount of concave pressure pushing down on the h2o.shockedsmile
It's cool to watch....if you have the patience that is.

On a side note...They are still pissed that they wasted the only 200 pH test strips they ever owned during the first 15 failures.blush

Ever chopped up a whole dinner plate of perfectly white and fluffy meth powder with one small razor blade  for hours so that the acetone and toluene from the gassing would evap faster?
