      mbrp floating clumps

Well... SWIM cant seem to find anything on TFSE, so here it is... SWIM was cleaning some mbrp the other night and something strange happened... strips cut off and soaked in meOH and acetone, strips were removed and solvant poured off, upon the addition of water, the rp coagulated/clumped together and separated into two phases, half was on the bottom and half was floating on top of the water.... possibly glue still in the RP?? anybody have any experience with this?

      RE: your oops

Next time dont add water....

Waters OK to wash AFTER the majority of the glue has been washed out...

It's RP with signifigant amounts of Glue attached that causes it to float!

To fix this decant off the top along with the floating RP and save it fro a later day, or evap til near dryness and the re-wash with acetone and Alcohol: collect the settled rp on the bottom and continue with your cleaning process.

      surface tension:

you can float a steel sewing needle on water. really. (try it)
soap will reduce the surface tension of water, and is pretty easy to wash out later on, if need bee.

      or

You could use something like a turkey baster to reduce the volume of water, then add alcohol to bring the rp back down.
The red will only float if the amount of water exceeds the 50% range. This is important to remember when you add muriatic acid.
