to increase reaction speed, you might either work with an organic solvent/PTC system or in alcoholic solution. hydrolysis also works in acidic medium (ie. dil. H2SO4). you'll always get some elimination side-reaction. now the $100.000-question is: why would you want to do that? (halo-safrole => MDP2P?) |

That reaction sounds like you are going to get isosafrole as your major product (elimination instead of substitution). ../rhodium /halide. |
