Why dry freebase/solvent before distillation?  Bookmark

So you have crude  mdma freebase in your solvent from a variety of methods. You then perform an A/B and extract the now cleaner freebase with preferred solvent. Then you want to distill your freebase. WHY do you first have to dry the solvent/freebase before distilling. Surely the water would come over well before the goodies. Swim understands the necessity to dry if you want to gas without distilling.
Thanks

have you ever heard of steam distillation?

drying takes less than 10 minutes and helps alot. just do it.

If you've got freebase in DCM (ie from an A/B) don't bother drying the DCM before distillation--just go straight ahead. Water is more soluble in DCM at higher temperatures, all the water is carried over.

One cautionary note of extreme importance: if you've got two immiscible phases you MUST separate them!!! Eg if you've got "wet" sassafras, freebase or whatever, you MUST dry them or add some dry DCM, alcohol, etc, to carry over the water... otherwise it will splatter the oil as it distills!
