NaOH remaining after diluting Methylamine to 40%? | Bookmark | ||||||
Writeup: To prepare a solution of 40% solution of methylamine in water, 100g methylamine hcl is placed in a flask with 50mL water. Then a solution of 60g NaOH in 100ml water is added with stirring. Swim's question is this: Do you remove the NaOH after it's been added? The literature doesn't specify this so swim is posting this question on here. Thank you. |

Thats table salt, not NaOH anymore. And it does no harm in the al/hg rxn. [edit] You must have both solutions ice cold when doing this or you will loose alot of your methylamine when the two react. 40% |
