In step 10. says wash ketone/dcm with sodium bicarbonate in water.(500ml each wash). how much sodium bicarbonate do i add?? In step 11. how much sturated NaCl do i add to(400-500ml) how much water??thanks...

It's usually good to saturate the solvent with something.. So, dissolve sodium bicarbonate to water until it doesn't dissolve anymore... Decant or filter to get rid of the solids.

Also use hot water to start,add in way too much and stir the hell out of it.But when making NaOH,use cold water as the reaction is quite exothermic.

A saturated solution is simple. Add as much solid to the solution as it take until no more dissolves. When no more solid will dissolve remove the excess.
