Maybe some Canadians can comment on their legislation. Canada certainly seems to be resisting the intellectual property extremists. In Europe, UK and Norway are definitely out. Sweden was good but the current administration is neo-conservative and not to be trusted. The Netherlands has a strong liberal and free speech tradition. Maybe Spain and Portugal might be OK too. German also has both a strong constitution and democratic tradition. Anywhere has to be better than the US. |

The way we used to know.

The hive was the place where many of us got our start, where we all learned of our fascination with chemistry. Many of us had no clue of what we were getting into but yet we still drove on and kept our eyes glued to the screen in search of understanding. For some it was a different experience than it was for others. I myself found exactley what I was looking for and that was in one instant.
Every great wealth of information had to start somewhere. The Hive had a begining just like Syntheika had one. Look and marvel at the size of the Hive. It's a legend. But only because we all worked so hard to contribute to make it what it was. Ill never forget the first synth i completed succsefully it was my first attempt. I was so excited to have done that but i didnt do it on my own. I had the help of many bees. I'll also never forget the first time i helped a newbee, it was awesome.
Please everyone look, and marvel at what we have here. It's already better then what anyone else could have done alone. These people were kind enough to start a new home for us. We are no longer cyberspace dwellers without a hive to call a home.
Thank you Synthetika for giving me a new home and a place i can look to for more help when i need it. I look forward to the day when maybe the hive is back and we can back and forth and share information between us. But for now this is all i have. Peace Out..... |

thankyou davidus,
They are very kind words,
Collaboration has built, and is maintaining a safer and secure community for us all
Information is divided among the many hands of this board, and is giving a safe, amnd permanent accesable home, to it
All the many parts of this board have been made by our active members,
We are definately on target for our field to become politically accepted as legitimate chemistry research,
We are doing all the we can to make this forum, informational to all that enjoy chemistry
We like it as much as you do, and are looking to make it better,
We look forward to watch the evolution of this board, being powered by all of our collective interests.
Germany sounds ok, for a host, But we have yo ask, when the US rings germany, What is germany going to do with us?
Is not every country oblidged to apply there own rules,
And if our board can be bent into the perception of Popularizing Drug Use, would not every government be heavy handed towards such propaganda?
How can you bann a organic chemistry Book of any sort,
This is where we have to vigilant, on any posts that are not strictly about the chemistry,

I got it! How about North Korea?
I am sure Kim Jong II would welcome a server in his country hosting information the existence of which would get under the U.S./U.K.'s skin! |

but don't thet execute people for light drug offences?
Lief, they sound also very good,
What about the saudi/US relationship?
thankyou,
What about france?
Don't they despise the US?
I have always wondered about canada, and their deals are very affordable
This is looking like a good option
This is a good thread, this is what we need, good input,
We will be making a choice again very soon, so all input is essential
Well there are our forerunners at the moment
Next we need to find their hosting deals

bookburning

It is so similar to days of book burning,
How can they honestly get away with supressing any information?
They have made the information hard enough to get, even in library's
And the harm prevention they associate with it's justification,
what a load of shit,
Not many sites on the internet offer cutting edge research
We really should be encouraged,
So it is just beautiful irony that we support our powerful words, and secure them by the thing that fuels theirrelentless power,
Fight fire with fire,
Our information is protected, by the same nuances that society seems to grow on,
I say it is a devious plan, but our information becomes safe and secure in the process,
Alot of forums can fall down because it actually cost money to keep the inforamtion alive,
We are just guaranteeing the information, by using adds, that are completely relevant, and non-spamming,
Long live the information
Syn
We are all coming up with all sorts of crazy ideas to further reward our members,
Soon, over the next few months, we will bring in a system, that users can actually make money from our site,
We are going to open sites, so that people who don't have any money, can buy the things, they really need,
Like pc, computers, ipods etc,
We are going to show how you can take advantage of the current paradigm of culture, and get the things you want, without paying a cent,
Watch us!
We are really excitied about it, and the theory is all ready set up,
and it is just a matter of doing! |

Offshore webhosting:

HavenCo's services are built around a basic platform -- a dedicated server in managed colocation, with 256kbps to 1mbps of high-quality Internet bandwidth. Service includes 24x7 Network Operations Center monitoring, security monitoring of your server, a private web page from which you can manage your server's disk image, perform remote reboots, and view realtime bandwidth use, redundant power, cooling, and unmatched security, including 12" thick concrete walls, 24x7 armed security, and miles of empty sea between you and any threat. Our rate sheet details pricing for this and other services we offer.

good find

Thanks MT
We are almost ready to put up our database up for offline reading, and compressed versions of the hive, and rhod files,
members will be able to download them, we will put a bandwidth limit on this, so if you miss out te first month, then you will get the chance the second month,
Nubee is helping out with this project, and many others are donating great missing threads, that also will be available,
So we are getting close, to this information, being circulated for ever more,
We are trying really hard to get this done asap,
We are still looking for a way to turn a mysql database(our forum), into a viewable html file, with index, similar to the hiveoard's,
But i thank everyone for their imput into choosing a OS server,
I am really happy about that, as it is a gruelling task to find the best place.
But we are making progress, so thankyou all involved
For the moment, untill we can find a way to port te mysql database into html, we will just offer a compressed version of our database,This will be a great method for the longterm survival of this forum,
All in all, we are definately making progress, with the kind help from everyone!
So we are filling up our 5gb of space very quickly, so soon we will probably get out own dedicated server, so we can have 120gb space and 1000 gb bandwidth, a big jump from our small beginnings,
I think canada, might be of great interest for our server, as there prices, are very competitive

Yee of little faith:
On March 21, 2005, the Hive staff was informed by Rhodium that he was/is looking at buying a server with a 3yr on-the-spot replacement warranty which will cost him around €1500 (+25% VAT). He further indicated that the plan was/is for him to front the funds for now and recoup the money later via any donations collected. I'm sure that it would be better for them if "later" was just as soon as possible. On that note, I'm in for at least a Jackson. Anything anybee else can do to help will most certainly be immensely appreciated by all.
As regards the logistics of getting the Hive up and running again, Rhodium had this to say:
"The estimate given to me for when the server can be aquired and placed on a broadband connection for setup and configuration is between 1-2 weeks. I will try to coach them to pull this off as soon as possible, but I cannot promise anything for sure, as neither the arrangement of bandwidth nor the hardware aquisition can be performed by me personally. I'll keep you posted as soon as I aquire more information."
So there you have it. The fund-raising effort initiated here is genuine. As I understand it, the person entrusted with collecting donations will at some point forward the monies collected to me and I will then in turn forward said donated funds to Rhodium in the form of an international money order.
Believe it. The Hive WILL BE BACK online...and with a bit of luck, it's going to happen relatively soon.
That's the plan, anyway.
Luv,
Stoni
