Hi !!!
In most [eugenol] extractions , the text calls for essential oil being extracted/washed with DCM. Due to the lousy 3% Eugenol by weight in cloves../ that would mean about 200-300 litres of DCM for a kilo of Eugenol .

the question is .. should I use DCM ., or any other non polar solvent would do ?

Over'ere a OTC litre of DCM is 20 Euros ,so could I use xylene ? toluene ? benzene ? or there is any reason to specifically use DCM ? in the extraction?

Cheeres

Why do you want to extract with large volumes of solvent when steam distillation is a much more economical / sensible way of getting the eugenol out of the cloves?

Also, why not just go and buy the oil of cloves? It is incredibly cheap.
