Helpful Links to Specific Areas of Chemistry

Like the e-book and journal forums, this forum will be used to post links to specific webpages with above-average explanations of certain topics.

While there are countless sites that cover such specific topics as "chirality" or "resonance theory", I have found that certain pages/sites have the ability to explain a topic in an extremely lucid and understandable manner. Please post links to this forum that you have found which have helped you in this way.

When posting a link, briefly summarize the subject matter being addressed, as follows:

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
HERE IS A LINK THAT REALLY HELPED ME TO UNDERSTAND CARBOCATIONS:

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

In addition, make an effort to keep the topic narrowly based. For instance, try not to post broad topics like "Alkenes". A subject area like this is so broad that a Google search would likely find the same link. Instead, post a link to a specific sub-topic. Also, since students following the course lecture materials will probably try to find an answer to a particular question or confusing concept on their own first [if they are diligent students!], this forum can be used as a last step resource of a particular chemistry concept they find problematic before posting a question in one of the "Q&A" forums.

So, instead of posting a link discussing "Alkenes", post a link to a more specific sub-category such as "Alkenes in the presnece of an acid" or "Markovnikov Additions".

As links are posted, I will try to organize them in a logical and coherent manner.

Covalent Bonds/Molecular Orbital Theory

The following is what I have found to be a really clear yet concise explanation of Covalent Bonding. Though I do not want to break my own rule of posting links which cover overly broad topics, this link is a great supplement for those who could use a really clear explanation of Covalent Bonding and related topics such as electron configuration, sp-hybridization, VSEPR theory, polarity, and dipole moments. The graphics are high quality as well.

Enjoy...
