Reduction of Phenylephrine
Tue Apr 19, 2005 2:41 pm
Looking at the structure of phenylephrine it would be nice if one could reduce that OH group on the benzene ring, leaving an amphetamine.
Is there such a reducing agent that would kill that OH and not destroy the side arm ?
Would be great if you could just heat it with zinc dust just like you would do to reduce a phenol to benzene.

Only if you cleave it all the way down to the benzene ring maybe...
