New Site Features!

Being as I'm now on the crew of resident programmers, I went ahead and made a few changes to the site header. You'll notice a few new things (or maybe you won't, I can't prove that you will ).
First - There is now an embedded search box up top. I've been wanting this for a while; should come in handy. Play with it, have fun. Remember kids, be safe.
Second, I added a link to the main forum index. I was really sick of having to go through the portal at 'home' every time I wanted to start browsing again, so now everyone can enjoy the fruits of my labor... Well, sixty seconds of labor.
I also removed the Memberlist and Usergroups menus. The memberlist can still be accessed directly at /memberlist.php if you care to, and the usergroups menu was empty, so I figured nobody would miss it.
If anybody has anything to add, or suggestions for new features, critique, comments, whatever, let's hear it. I want to know what you guys want, so I can get to work on making it...

Top move primathon!
I reckon this will save a lot of unnecessary double-posting of material. When the search box is right there in your face, people seem more likely to try a basic search, before asking an already answered question. This makes our site more condensed, efficient and easier for all to use.
Thanks man. |

__^ See that? I thought this may be a more effective way to number and reference posts. Do you guys want the link as-is, or as it was with a javascript popup that let you copy the link into the clipboard... Or.. (thinking), I could probably rig something up that the one click copies the link directly to the clipboard... Anyway, lemme know.

New Thing:
Now when you hit 'reply', the message subject defaults to "re: topic-title". Gonna make it easier to keep threads in order if someone's too lazy to type a subject... |

Printable Topics

I found a mod for printable topics, but it's all in russian! I'm gonna see what else I can dig up... Also, I want to either find or hack together a page that just displays a single post. Good for quoting, y'know....
More later... |

Another improvement could be about the search feature. When u search for something and let's say u get 9 hits. When u read one of the posts among the 9 hits, there's no way to return to the same search results. U have to go back to the search feature and retype the keyword in order to get the results again and go to the second post regarding the subject and so forth an so on. So if there could be a button added with let's say: "go back to search results", or something similar, it would be IMO a nice extra feature.
Best Regards,

Unfortunately this doesn't work for me.
When I hit the back button I always get the "Page cannot be displayed" error, and I'm forced to go back to the search feature and retype the keyword again...

When using the search feature, if there are multiple topics you wish to check out, consider opening them in a new window/tab instead of reading them one at a time and then going back. This also will reduce the load placed on the server. For most browsers, either middle-click or shift-click a link to open it in a new window/tab. |
